LIVING ROOM
CHATHAM, NEW JERSEY
This project demonstrates how bold design choices can create warmth rather than overwhelm. Designed to bring symmetry and flow to an asymmetrical Colonial living room, the space is enveloped in a richly patterned floral wallpaper and layered shades of green that create depth, character, and a sense of cohesion.
Rather than relying on traditional white trim, the millwork was painted in a complementary green drawn directly from the wallpaper, softening the transitions throughout the room and enhancing its moody atmosphere. Balanced with light furnishings, warm metallic accents, and thoughtful pattern mixing, the result is a space that feels welcoming, comfortable, and full of personality.

“Creating a moody vibe was a balancing act. The clients wanted wallpaper and dark walls but didn’t want it to feel like a cave. Wrapping the walls in dark wallpaper was the boldest move in the space. Instead of painting the trim white, we selected a green from the paper. This allows for subtle contrast between the trim and walls instead of a jarring contrast with the more typical white.”
