Somehow it is already Week 7 of the ORC and not only did I miss the post last week but is time to post again! There has been MAJOR progress in the playroom. I am so excited to see my vision taking shape.
I posted in Week 5 that the built-ins were installed. Well, they are complete as of late last week & the boys have moved in. We all love them for the storage & but also as a statement within the room. Rich Green + Brass + Cognac Leather = Perfection
Vintage Club Chairs
The playroom has an empty corner that would be perfect for a reading nook. When my Gram passed, I was given the club chairs that were in her bedroom. These chairs have been in my attic for the past few years, but finally I have the perfect spot for them (and selfishly, I love seeing them everyday because they remind me of my Gram).
Overall the chairs were in good shape. The wood on the arms needed some attention so we to have it refinished in addition to updating the upholstery. I wanted a pattern that was both bold & classic. Vanderbilt Velvet in Marine fit the bill.
I picked up the chairs from the upholsterer on Tuesday and I am truly blown away. To finish off the nook are custom throw pillows in Giove and a killer wall sconce.
I picked up a table at Ikea to be used for games, puzzles, art & free play. I didn't love the natural color in the space. It really competed with the rich jewel tones. I chose Benjamin Moore Bordeaux Red . The color inspiration came from the art print that will be hanging behind the table.
Art & Decor
The Gucci inspired Tiger print is currently at the framer & scheduled to be ready Saturday. I wanted to use the vintage frame purchased from Facebook Marketplace but the frame was a little bit too big for the print. I decided to makeover the frame (read between the lines...I spray painted the frame Gold) and take it to Mona Lisa Framing in downtown Maplewood for some professional help. Dayana helped my figure out the best plan for mounting and matting the art.
Also, this past weekend in Maplewood was the Artist Studio Tour. My son Finn came with me to The Maplewood Mercantile and picked out (2) original 5x7 paintings from the artist Sarah Klein (Sarah Klein Studio). They are abstract, bright and the perfect finishing touch to the reading nook.
Fingers crossed the frames arrive in time to for the reveal next week.
Odds & Ends
My husband helped me update the radiator cover using a classic brass pattern.
He also updated the hardware on the playroom doors with new rosette crystal knobs to (finally) match the rest of the house.
I am still waiting for some additional decor to arrive. I am not sure what will show up so it will be a surprise for the both of us!
Stay tuned for the final reveal next week!!!!
